Day 3 - Malacca

Went on a day bus trip to Malacca today. Left around 9 and went by bus about 2 hours south - on large 6 lane motorway, Once again showed huge contrast between very flash housing and very poor shack like places. You also have huge Malls and next door will be rows of small (often chinese) run down street side stalls and shops. Food certinaly cheaper here. The meal we had last night for example we did go to a reasonable place in a flashy mall and it cost the equivalent of $20NZ for both of us for a superb fish meal and a drink - would have been a lot cheaper in the street stall food places I guess.
Malacca was not as expected and is a very old city (the bit we saw) and we went and looked at the older housing area - some run down but some flash once again. Looked at the history of the Portugese, Dutch, English and Chinese influence.

Interestingly driving down on the motorway every where you look you know you are not in NZ. The tropical influence on vegetation is huge and housing is always different to NZ housing where ever you look- let alone the heat today which I think was closer to 40+ degrees than 35!!!! We had a lighning storm on the way back which dropped the temperature a few degrees.
All and all a good day - photos of temples, chinese cemeteries, portugese forts and dutch buildings and crazy dressed up bikes with side cars to take tourists on rides.

Tomorrow might be a lazy day - heard about an aquarium worth visiting and we might sort out what to do when we return in July!
