Day 55 - St Michaels to Lesliw to Old Deer

A leisurely breakfast at ur B & B then off to Leslie to visit the Leslie Primary School. On the way we passed the pub/restuarant we had been to the previous evening.
The headteacher Lily Proudfoot kindly showed us around her neat school when we arrived.
Following, after having morning tea with the staff we headed off to the nearby village of Falkland – no not the islands!!
Directed to a craft shop, coffee shop and palace but not necessarily in that order. Went all 3 though – including a nice morning tea with scone and a pancake (looked like a pikelet to me) and salad sandwich (guess who had which!)!
The Palace was neat to look around- unfortunately no photos allowed inside but saw many paintings of previous residents including Mary Queen of Scots. We also walked through their very good gardens.
Then on through to Dundee then headed north trying to find a supermarket and failed although found another further up the coast road.
Nice driving some dual carriage way. After ignoring Sally (Garmin GPS friend) and going in circles once we carried on. Spun the wheel up a gravel road to find a coffee place about 3 pm – and found about 20 cars at this place with a large kids play area and go karts that kkids could use while Mum & Dad had a coffee – very nice food too. Also Strawberrys for tea!
Sally took us through Aberdeen main street at 5 pm!!!!
Very slow going but found out later there is no fast way through Aberdeen so we excused Sally eventually! Interesting city but didn’t spend much time there this time around.
Then on further NE with roads getting increasingly narrow with some stunning yellow paddocks in full flower everwhere – some of the paddocks were huge.
Eventually arruived in Old Deer- our destination. Couldn’t find our new friends Sandy & Kathleen – asked one person in the street and had great trouble in understanding the foreign language we were hearing!!!!!!!! Eventually understood the “English” and found the old school house.
Wonderful hosts, wonderful house. After a pleasant evening and introducing them to the wonders of skype we are off to bed. A more relaxing day tomorrow with a slow drive up further north beyond Inverness to a Castle youth hostel with shared dorms - I wonder who snores - bring out those ear plugs.
