Day 42 - Naples, Pompei, Positano

After a dragged out start the ferry left Polermo about 8.45 pm. Fortunately the sea was almost like glass and extremely smooth. Took about 11 hours for the crossing so got into Naples about 7.45 am. It was a very big ferry carrying lots of cars, buses and trucks – was amusing watching the loading and Italian sign language going on with some who had obviously not booked.

NAPLES Arrived at Naples for breakfast at a local hotel then off to Pompei.

POMPEI. Talk about people! A cruise ship had landed at the same time of us and I think they were all at the dig site!

It was also quite warm for a change. Huge area to cover – hard to take it all in.

Spent about 2 hours there.

Vesuvius was reluctant to show itself much – hopefully we will get clear skies tomorrow.

POSITANO: We then went to a small town called Positano. There was a very steep road again to go on – we had to get in smaller buses to get around the corners.

The road was very bendy and curly and steep in places – once again Italian drivers – especially motor cycle riders where interesting to observe!

In Positano was a small town built on the side of cliffs. Selling a lot of clothings (womans).

Very pretty and nice beach. A few of the group went for a swim. Water was beautifully clear.

Here are a few of the shots from the village. It was an interesting town.

It was a very tiring day again especially when didn’t sleep that well last night. When we got back to the hotel there was a big lightning storm again and big crash of thunder shook the hotel – also saw a couple of flashes of fork lightning – dramatic stuff over the volcano!! Glad we are now inside!

Barrie just went for a walk – there are TWO weddings here and lots of people dressed up so he came back and changed for tea! I don’t think we are going to have a quiet night!

Tomorrow we are going to the small island of Capri which is not too far away. We hope the sea will be as smooth as last night!
