Day 42 - To Palermo

Friday Yeah internet here!
I put the other days on just now   so you might have to click the previous posts to read what we have done over the last few days

Today was another long drive in the bus across the middle of this island  It is amazing .The landscape  really varied - we took pictures but they won't be as good as it looked.   The different colours and the distance we could see.   It  was very beautiful.

Lots of crop farmers  - lemons - grain crops like wheat and barley.

There are some nice houses but also some really old ones that are falling down. They looked in a need of repair many of them.
We had morning tea in this little village where they had a shop with lots of small cakes and sweets.

AGRIGENTO
Then we drove right across the island to a town called Agrigento.  Had a guided tour of the temples.  There was a lot of greek history here.

They were built by the Greeks about 3,000 years ago at least. Many other temples on this site were destroyed by the following cultures - Romans, Christians, Moors, British, Spanish, Germans etc etc etc. This is a bit like to slogan of the Sicily Tourist Board. " Come and invade us, everyone else has!"

Traveling again
The other amazing thing was also all the neat roads again. The roads were often raised when they didn't need too. They were often very high. If there was a hill- they just put a tunnel through it!
The landscape was stunning - although not rolling you always seemed to be able to see miles in all directions.

PALERMO

We then kept driving to the town of Palermo which is the largest city in Sicily with about 1,000,000 people. More on that tomorrow when we have a city tour.

We should be able to write again tomorrow but after that I don't know sinc we will be on the ferry the following night and then in a new hotel!
