Day 47-49

Well been without internet for last 2 days so here is a quick catch up of the precious 3 days

Day 47 Sorrento and Capri

We went to Sorrento first after another neat breakfast. This town is on cliff sides virtually overlooking the sea.

Shopped in Sorrento – we went to a wood factory very flash inlaid furniture. Went around the many shops and purchased a couple of smaller things

Then got on ferry to Capri which took about 25 minutes to get there.

We took a small boat around the island looking at the caves etc

We then went to the top of the island in a mini-bus and had lunch overlooking the sea.

Very very steep road – long drops to get up there – even quite scary when you saw how high the road was above the sea! After a great lunch we went back down and then had fight the hundreds of other tourists and school kids to come down the venicular.

We then took the ferry back to Bay of Naples and returned by bus to the hotel – for our last tea in Naples.

Day 48 Naples to Rome

Today was our last full day in Italy. We got up early and headed off. We first visited a place that made cameo broaches from lots of different things but mostly shells. Some were very expensive.

The day was fine and we drove on to Rome. On the way we passed Casino – which was a major site from WW II unfortunately we didn’t have time to visit it but could see it on the hill. When we arrived at our hotel. Shona decided to stay and tidy up our messy bags. I went with the others into the city. They first visited the Vatican – which is the smallest state in the world, you can walk across it in about 5 minutes! We went into St Peters which is the largest church in the world. It is huge! The queue was very long again. It was fascinating with lots of statures and some very famous paintings.

After this we went to the Colosseum once again and that was cool again and the guide told us all about the gladiators again and all the animals that used to fight in here.

After returning to our hotel to finish packing our bags then went out to tea for our final dinner which was a bit sad, but it was good fun – we had 2 opera singers entertaining us at the restaurant.

Then home to bed

Day 49 - Rome to Edinbugh

Up really early at 5.15 to go out to the airport. Said good bye to Dario and Michael and the others who had come out with us. Left Rome at 28 degrees. We then looked at the duty free and got a couple of things – one lady tried to give the wrong change – but we got that fixed quickly. Joined a flight to London. Arrived in Heathrow on time – took the underground to Terminal 1 and then after a quick snack then flew to Edinburgh.

Our friend Wilson was there to meet us which was great. After some hassle finding the correct place to collect our car we got that and as we collected it the rain came down – along with some hail. Great welcome to Scotland at 7 degrees!

Well the Mainland European tour is now over – now to explore the UK- but sleeping in first to catch up on some sleep as well as getting long over due washing done!
